Blogging is Stupid

The idea of writing a blog sucks. I kind of even hate that fact that I’m here right now, sitting down at my computer typing some shit like this into a page that’s self-named “a blog.”

Blogging on its face seems benign enough. It’s just some stories by some people who like to cook and take pictures of all their ingredients every damn step of the way, or who just love suggesting fanciful things you could do for your next wedding if you had an unlimited budget and a real desire for firefly lights. But that’s just it, most people who are “bloggers” are not even that into writing and instead have some ulterior motive - like pushing a gooey chocolate cookie recipe on you (since we’re on the topic, a recipe for the best gooey chocolate cookies in the universe is here).

Do you even know how many tip posts about blogging are out there with titles like “how to crank out tons of bullshit posts to get followers in less time!” It’s like a bad used car salesman situation out there.

Blogging is essentially writing for the sake of pumping out posts to get recognition, or to make money, or both. The writing itself doesn’t even have to be good for you to be considered a “good blogger”. You just have to have enough content that Google likes so you get ranked well in their fancy algorithm and your content now will magically appear in keyword-related search results. Oh, and it appears obligatory to have excessive amounts of fluff before you get to the actual point of your post - Google appreciates longer posts more, so it just encourages extra bullshit writing.

Instead of blogging, I want to write, like for real. I don’t want to write out an itemized list of my day or my impending to dos. I don’t want to share recipes because first of all you all know that I can’t bake anything to save my life, but also I really don’t care that much about sharing food pics (unless you check my Insta, then I for sure am a food pic whore - sorry not sorry). And I don’t have a fun albeit weird hobby that I’m so awesome at that I want to share every living detail about it with other weird hobbyists on the Interwebs.

Yeah okay sometimes I’m hypocritical and I write a post while thinking about the possible keywords I want to focus on, or just because I know it’s a topic that will get more organic search hits, or because I know something is timely so more people will be interested in it… but for the most part, I write what I want to write, when I want to write it, just because I feel like writing about whatever it is at this particular moment and hopefully one of you will have a modicum of interest in too.

So while I am here, blogging, and you are reading said blog and I swear I very much appreciate it, blogging to me is still hella lame (and no, this does not mean I will stop blogging anytime soon… so…).

*Keywords used: blogging is crap, why does anyone like blogging. Google, do your thing.
