Words in the Universe

It doesn’t have to be perfect to go out into the universe. It just has to be enough.

It just has to be enough to resonate, even just a smidge, even just with a single person. To know that someone somewhere out there in this big beautiful world actually read more than a sentence or two. Even if it only gets them to think about something for a second or two they wouldn’t have thought about otherwise. Even if it was only one single person.

Even if that only someone it resonated with was you. If it made you explore an unfamiliar topic a little deeper than you would have otherwise. If it made those words swirling around in your head finally stick in an order that makes sense  you can stop thinking now.

It has to do exactly what you want it to do, in that moment, whatever it is. Words to fly paper, shed some light on something crazy, be provocative and wild because you’re feeling yourself, educate people on the things to do in your hometown (a past life of mine; maybe I’ll tell you about it sometime), give people who are otherwise stuck in doing the same old at their companies a way to actually make a difference and improve the inner workings of their organization, etc. etc.

It is wildly satisfying when it’s finally out. When it’s no longer yours, but the world’s. When you can’t sit there and tweak it anymore because it’s done and gone and no one will see the edits and you are absolved of doing anything more to make it better.

When it’s finally out there in the universe.
