A Millennial Spills The Tea

Each New Day

Life goes a little something like this:

Wake up (ish) for plus or minus seven minutes to an alarm that is so quiet it’s astounding it’s actually doing a good job of waking you up except for the fact that those tones are just so damn annoying at that hour that you’re really not surprised in the slightest that it does the trick. Groggily (and clumsily) reach for glasses, silently curse being so nearsighted you can barely see a foot in front of you for the umpteenth time, almost knock glass of water off nightstand. Finally get up and meander around the piles of clothes and dog toys on the floor to the bathroom. The bathroom that is entirely avocado green, down to the damn toilet bowl. Enter said avocado green bathroom from 70s hell, flip the light on and stare at yourself in the mirror for a sec to see barely open eyes and a wrinkle that is for sure forming in between your eyebrows. Your hair is kind of a disaster this morning. Sigh once; maybe twice. Strip and enter the shower (also avocado green) and turn the water on. Wish you had waited for the water to warm up before getting in (every, damn, day) as you scrunch yourself as far into the corner and away from the cold water - even though the (avocado green) tiles that you’re now leaning against are also freezing. Stare at your collection of shampoo bottles while you wait - only three, to be fair, and one of them’s the new purple one that’s still unnerving to use for whatever reason, your pomegranate cranberry body wash that looks like its about to dive out of your shower caddy with the slightest nudge, and the droplets of water starting to collect on the (yep, avocado green) tiles. You notice your pink loofah looks like it needs replacing and its once round shape is a little saggy these days. Make a mental note to try and remember this after you leave the shower. Accidentally lean against the wall - the tiles on your bare back send shivers down your spine. Finally the water warms up and the shower beings to steam a little. You step underneath the stream of cascading water.

Your day has just begun.
